❓ Claim checked: Senator Angkhana stated that 750,000 Cambodians were affected by the fighting with Thailand.

Fact-check result: Misleading — the claim distorts Senator Angkhana’s Facebook post, which cited an estimate of civilians affected by the fighting without specifying nationality, as assessed by a United Nations agency.

📝 Summary: On 22 December 2025, the Facebook page Kong Dee Na Sue posted a 47-second video clip with narration and captions stating: “Angkhana has come out to defend Cambodia, citing heavy losses along the border and ignoring the suffering of Thai people who were attacked. This immediately became a hot issue on social media when Senator Angkhana Neelapaijit commented on the situation between Thailand and Cambodia, saying that the conflict caused many Cambodian soldiers to be killed, leaving many Cambodian families widowed, and forcing more than 750,000 Cambodian civilians to become displaced…”

As of 24 December, the post had received more than 320,000 views, over 500 shares, and more than 2,000 comments, most of which were abusive, accusing her of being unpatriotic and telling her to move to Cambodia.

🔎 Cofact’s verification:
On 19 December 2025, Angkhana posted on her Facebook page: Angkhana Neelapaijit:

“The United Nations estimates that the Thailand–Cambodia conflict has forced 750,000 civilians to leave their homes and become internally displaced persons (IDPs) under international humanitarian law. Protecting civilians and their infrastructure is of the utmost importance.”

She also shared a link to a news report from the website of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) published on 18 December.

The OHCHR report she cited stated that Volker Türk, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, expressed concern about the safety of civilians affected by the latest round of fighting between Thailand and Cambodia, which began on 7 December, and emphasized the need to protect both Thai and Cambodian civilians.

“This conflict has forced an estimated 750,000 people to flee their homes in border areas,” the OHCHR report said.

Based on Angkhana’s Facebook post and the OHCHR report she referenced, the following conclusions can be drawn:

▪ Angkhana did not state that 750,000 Cambodians were displaced. The figure came from an OHCHR estimate, which likewise did not specify Cambodian nationality, referring instead to “people living in border areas.”
▪ In addition to distorting Angkhana’s Facebook post, the video also accused her of “defending Cambodia” and “ignoring the suffering of Thai people.” However, in her post, Angkhana referred to the “protection of civilians.” She told Cofact that her statement referred to all civilians affected by the fighting, regardless of ethnicity or nationality.
