❓ Claim checked: President Xi Jinping said that the only way to stop corrupt politicians is execution.❌ Fact-check result: False
📝 Summary: In November 2025, while Thai society was closely following news about scammer networks and their links to Thai businesspeople and politicians, the Facebook page “Luckyim News” published an image of Xi Jinping, President of China, edited with a caption claiming: “The Chinese leader said… execution is the only way to stop politicians, civil servants, and capitalists from being corrupt ”
As of 23 December, the post had more than 320,000 views and over 2,600 shares.
An X (formerly Twitter) account, “Chad Fit&Travel,” shared the same message on 22 November, receiving nearly 80,000 views and more than 1,500 shares.
🔎 Cofact’s verification: The quote attributed to Xi Jinping, which claims he supports executing corrupt civil servants and politicians, has been shared by Thai social media users since 2024. However, checks of credible media reports and official sources found no reliable evidence that Xi ever made such a statement.
Cofact also emailed the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Thailand to ask whether the quote belonged to the Chinese leader. The embassy replied that China is a country governed by the rule of law and that the statements circulating online are “not words spoken by the Chinese leader.”
A review of media reports shows that Xi Jinping has pursued a strict anti-corruption policy since taking office as president. However, a Bloomberg report published in December 2024 noted that only a small number of Chinese officials have been sentenced to death for corruption, as such punishment is reserved for “extremely serious cases” that cause severe harm to the country and its people.
